[Verse 1]
A Holiday, a holiday
The best one of the year
Young Matty Groves to church did go
The Preacher’s words to hear, The Gospel’s words to hear
[Verse 2]
The ladies came, all dressed in black
And as they came to view
Lord Arland's wife he saw at last
In white among the pews, In white among the pews.
[Verse 3]
She strolled on up to Matty Groves
Said “Come with me tonight
Come home with me, dear Matty Groves,
And lay with me til light, yes, stay with me til light”
[Verse 4]
“I mustn’t go, I dare not go
I fear it'd cost my life
For I see by that ring you wear
You are Lord Arland's wife, the great Lord Arland's wife”
[Verse 5]
“And if I am lord Arlen’s wife?
He won’t be home at all
Lord Arlens gone to consecrate
King Henry at Whitehall, King Henry at Whitehall”
[Verse 6]
Her servant boy did listen well
to all that they had said
He’d surely let lord Arlen know
Before the sun would set, before the sun would set
[Verse 7]
And so he ran the Kings highway
He swam that river wide
He dare not stop until he came
To the great Lord Arlens side, to the great Lord Arlens side
[Verse 8]
“What news what news young servant boy
What news have you for me?
Is my castle burned, Are my tenants robbed?
Harm come to my lady? Harm come to my lady?”
[Verse 9]
“No harm has come your house and land”
The servant boy did say
"But Matty Groves tonight does lie
With your fair lady, With your fair lady”
[Verse 10]
“If this be true, what you speak now boy
A rich man you will be
But if I find you’ve thought me blind
You’ll be strung up from a tree, yes, strung up from a tree”
[Verse 11]
Lord Arlan gathered his merry men
called them to his will
then the bravest lad in all the crew
Blew his horn so loud and shrill, blew his horn so loud and shrill
[Verse 12]
“I’d best get clothed cried Matty Groves
I’d best get up and go
It must be Arlen's merry men
If that’s the horn I heard now blow, the horn I heard now blow"
[Verse 12]
“Lie down lie down sweet Matty Groves
And keep my back from cold
It's only father’s shepherd's horn
a'callin the sheep to fold, a'callin the sheep to fold.”
[Verse 13]
So Matty Groves he did lie down
And soon was fast asleep
And when he woke Lord Arlen was
A'standing at his feet, a'standing at his feet.
[Verse 14]
“Now how do you like my feather bed?
So how do you like my sheets?
How do you like my fair Lady?
Who lies in your arms asleep, who lies in your arms asleep."
[Verse 15]
“Ah it's very well I like your bed
And it's fine I like your sheets
But it's best I like your fair young bride
Who lies in my arms asleep, Who lies in my arms asleep.”
[Verse 16]
“Get up Get up young Matty Groves
As quick as you possibly can
In All the land it shall ne'er be said
I slew a sleepin' man, I slew a sleepin' man”
[Verse 17]
“Oh, I can’t get up, I won’t get up!
Don’t you want an honest fight?
You’ve got two damascus blades
And I not a pocket knife, aye, I not a pocket knife”
[Verse 18]
“True, I have me two fine swords
And they cost me deep in the purse
You may have the better of them
And I shall have the worse, I shall have the worse.
[Verse 19]
You can have the first blow
Strike it like a man
I will follow with my blade
And I’ll kill you if I can. I’ll kill you if I can”
[Verse 20]
So Matty struck the very first blow
He hurt Lord Arlen sore
With Arlen’s blow he then did know
That Matty’d strike no more, Young Matty’d strike no more.
[Verse 21]
The Lord took then his fair lady
He sat her on his knee
Saying “Who do you like the best of us
Be it Matty Groves or me, yes Matty Groves or me?”
[Verse 22]
She picked up Matty's dying head
she kissed from cheek to chin
Said "It’s Matty Groves I'd rather have
Than you and all your kin, than you and all you kin.
[Verse 23]
Dig our grave on a tall green hill
Dig it wide and deep”
Then she took young Matty’s blade
Which in her heart she’d keep, Which in her heart she’d keep.

Lifting the mask from a local clown, feeling down like him
Seeing the light in a station bar and travelling far in sin
Sailing downstairs to the northern line, watching the shine of the shoes
And hearing the trials of the people there
Who's to care if they lose?

Let’s go away for a year or a day
We could find us a place that we can call home
We’ll bring all our friends, on endless weekends
We can sit by the fire, lit in the gloam
Together, we’ll try, and I know we can fly
It might take some time but it’s soon to come true
So welcome my dear to a world without fear
We can lie in the shade of the tall tall dark yew
C G Em A
Lets’ build us a home
Wherever we roam
By land by sea,
By air or by foam

Dust on this tired, old street
Mark corners where we used to play
Dust trace our tired, old feet
In circles as we pace our time away
[Chorus]
I just wanna die anywhere else
If only I could die anywhere else
So come with me, let's die anywhere else
Anywhere... Just not here
Stuck on this dead end street
Where all the new kids come to play
Stuck, where past and future meet
Watching all our autumns drift away
[Chorus]
I just wanna die anywhere else
If only I could die anywhere else
So come with me, let's die anywhere else
Anywhere... Just not here
And if they ever hear my name
Will they know I walked alone
Around these dusty streets
My tired old home
And will they ever stop to think
What was here before? No
They won't remember that I'm gone
[Chorus]
I just wanna die anywhere else
If only I could die anywhere else
So come with me, let's die anywhere else
Anywhere... Just not here
Oh no

[Verse 1]
She eyes me like a Pisces when I am weak
I've been buried inside your heart-shaped box for weeks
I've been drawn into your magnet tar pit trap
I wish I could eat your cancer when you turn black
[Chorus]
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Your advice
[Verse 2]
Meat-eating orchids forgive no one just yet
Cut myself on angel hair and baby's breath
Broken hymen of 'Your Highness', I'm left black
Throw down your umbilical noose so I can climb right back
[Chorus]
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint
Forever in debt to your priceless advice
Your advice

Hey! Wait! I got a new complaint

We're at the movies
Watching some people move their mouths
And a religious figure
Who's not really a religious figure
'Cause he's an actor
We feel okay
Which is how we feel most of the time now
Nothing can't be done without the willingness
To succeed
Let's go to the opera
Since all of our favorite memories have failed us
You make the choice, you make the choice
You make the choice, you make the choice
Historic properties, historic places
The next generation
Lost in a sea of faces
There's no hope for generating electricity
No sidewalks, I just need some kicks
You make the choice, you make the choice
You make the choice, you make the choice

Cold Station 12 New Jersey
Folk is cool, and part of what makes that cool, to me, is the diy nature of it. Accordingly, I've been teaching myself guitar since roughly 2017 or 2018, and started recording and learning the songs I liked, despite my inexperience and lack of equipment. I've sorta improvised from there. ... more
